Pictures > December 2002 in Sicily
It's Sunday evening and a few hours ago I got back from my weekend trip to Sicily, where I went to surprise my uncle in occasion of his 50th birthday. I am tired- dead tired.
Let's just say that this freakin volcano in Sicily totally messed up our plans cuz we weren't able to land at the nearby airport and had to tour miles of Sicilian deserts and such to get to Letojanni.
Despite all that I really enjoyed myself, getting together with family and eating a lot of great food. Diet time! Follow this picture album to see what I was up to.
Letojanni in the winter time is so quiet, so peaceful... it's almost Christmas but you can walk around in a sweater. The sun is warm and the waves crash against the beach calm and reminiscing of the summer months.
The family house... there are still pictures of me when I was a little girl all over the wall. They made me reminisce of a time when little worries were in my life.
My dad and I take advantage of the occasion to take a walk around the boardwalk, to visit grandpa at the cemetery and to buy local desserts. I took pictures of the bakery's stands so you can admire some of the beauties that I will be eating in these upcoming days back home.
Here are zia Mimma and nonna Carmela making their famous homemade maccheroni with a huge needle... I ate a huge plate of them with tomato sauce! mm, and here's nonna Carmela sewing my dad's button on his shirt... see? I'm not the only one who doesn't know how to sew a button on a shirt!
And above are pictures of my uncle's birthday party at the restaurant. After that lunch with maccheroni and dessert I was so stuffed but was still able to eat fresh seafood as appetizers and a pizza, followed by the birthday cake... I don't know how I did it but I haven't eaten much today.
I took pictures of my cousins Francesco, Serena, Gabriele and Claudio. I told Serena she must come to live in Milan and she said someday she will- I hope so.
And those last picture above were taken this morning before my trip back to Milan. Isn't the picture with my grandmother great? It was very tiring and stressful to make such a long trip for such a short visit but it was worth it because I was happy to see my family in Sicily which I rarely get to see.
