Mi Vendo by Saradisperata (Fiction) this book is in Italian

Mi vendoA tragicomical look at the life of a single woman in a world of sharks, tackling rough issues like divorce, financial problems and temporary jobs. This is the real story of Sara, a woman who after years of unreliable career moves and the end of a marriage decides to open a blog where she proposes herself for just one night of sex to anyone who can offer her a steady job. A provocative idea that shouts outrage at a society that gives youth more delusions rather than hopes. Her ironic witty lines make the reading flow, the jokes are funny, it's a book you can't put down. You just hope its smart lines would get to someone and change reality, but this, unfortunately, is merely fiction.

The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory (Fiction-History-Romance)

Set Your Sights on Some BestsellersClearly depicted novel about the rivalry between two sisters in the court of Henry VIII of England, the rise of Anne Boleyn (mirrors historical fact) but the book is centered on sister Mary who becomes the king's lover and is later cast aside for her more successful sister's conquest to the throne. Loved this book, couldn't put it down... it's so detailed and well written, flows away into extremely pleasant tales of life at court and outside. A pleasing dive into the past.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling (Fantasy-Adventure) Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7)
The final chapter of the 7-book Harry Potter saga did not disappoint! Talk about a page turner! Full of its usual charming details that take readers of all ages into an imaginary world so intricately woven that while reading almost seems real, full of twists and turns that make us crave for more and more action it seems odd now to read the very final word to the story. Well I guess all good things must come to an end sooner or later. Let's hope a new addicting story pops up soon, as I am really going to miss the little wizard with the scar on his forehead...

The Name of the Rose by U. Eco (Mystery)
Review is coming soon as I am reading this book!

Ten Big Ones by J. Evanovich (Romance-Mystery)
Ouch, this is getting a bit boring... could it be because I'm reading them all at once? This time Steph's up against a rough gang... but guess how it ends? Yup... same ole thang... let's hope the next one will spice it up a bit.

June 2006

1) To the Nines by J. Evanovich (Romance-Mystery)
Unlike the previous book this one was a lot more predictable, obvious, plain. Let's not reveal much to avoid ruining your surprise, the only brilliant part about this installment was the ending part, too bad it wasn't described in enough details... Evanovich has the material, she has the talent, she has the creativity... all she has to do is develop it and not rush into the story like she has in this one. Too many repetitive details, not enough action... is this story becoming habitual or was it just this book?

2) Hard Eight by J. Evanovich (Romance-Mystery)
So far this was my favorite of the series, along with book 4, it gets creepy all the way when our hero Stephanie Plum is threatened by a very dangerous crowd of people that put bags of snakes in front of her house and blow up her car, chase her down the streets and attempt to kidnap her and torture her. A lot less mushy than the other books but the steam is still there to stay!

3) Snowflower and the secret fan by L. See (Serious-Women's Lit)
This was an incredible book, so deep, sad and at the same time enriching, it provides an educational insight into the world of women in 19th-century China. If you enjoy women's lit or complain about your thighs being too fat and your boyfriend ignoring you for the soccer match read this and knock yourself in the head with it.

4) Seven Up by J. Evanovich (Romance-Mystery)
In comparison to the previous book of the series I read, Four to Score, this one is not as compelling, then again I think this depends on the reader. I guess what's good about this character is that she's a normal person, clumsy despite her motivation. So despite her several encounter with crazy wives of mobsters, murderers and loons in general she always seems to get away with it all without major bruises... the story tends to stretch so far away from reality that it loses its credibility.
Then again screw it, who cares about credibility when we're talking fiction? Who gives a damn about making sense when Evanovich's imagination still has us rolling on the floor laughing?

May 2006

1) Four to Score by J. Evanovich (Romance-Mystery)
The stories get better and better... why? because our hero Stephanie Plum is always as clumsy as ever but always works hard to succeed! Plus, the plot thickens, and on-and-off man Joe Morelli gets more and more interesting!

2) One 4 the Money (by J. Evanovich)
Cute! A mix of steam and mystery, this is the first of a long series, I'm definitely going to check out the other books as well!

3) Katherine (by A. Seton)
Review coming soon as I am still reading this book!

April 2006

1) Jude's Law (by L. Foster)Jude's Law (Zebra Contemporary Romance)
This was such a pleasant read! It took me about two days to finish it, and that's because I was off work, I would like to check out more Lori Foster books. It talks about an everyday kind of woman (shapely and all) who falls for a hunky fighter/hollywood celebrity and guess what he likes her too! I like how this book also has other stuff involved, such as light mistery, action and... well, a plot. And believe me if you don't know, not all romances have a plot.

March 2006

1) Heiress for Hire (by E. McCarthy)Heiress For Hire
On the same line as other chick books, cute and easy to read but at the same time too rushed... it could have been developed a little more, but it was way too much of a given. If you want to read it you will not be disappointed but there are many more romance books out there that really know how to sweep you off your feet!

2) Kiss an Angel (by S. E. Phillips)Kiss an Angel
It was hard to get into it at first, since I don't find circus performers the ultimate male ideal... but the story was along the usual cute plots of Phillips and was so easy and pleasant to read it only took me a couple of days...

3) Heaven, Texas (by S. E. Phillips)
Heaven, TexasThis is a must-read romance between a geeky 30 year-old virgin and an all star football player... needless to say you get dreamy stories like this only in books so grab this one to have some fun! ps. so far not one Susan Elizabeth Phillips book has disappointed me...

4) The 5 People you Meet in Heaven (by M. Albom) The Five People You Meet in Heaven
Deep, meaningful read about life, death and everything in between. Made my tears run at times. If you want to read something a bit more serious don't miss this book!

February 2006

1) Rosie Dunne by C. Ahern (Romance)Rosie Dunne
I guess I shouldn't have expected that much from this one, but it was a funny reading, it had me laughing often... although original, the new media style used in the book (no direct story but everything takes place through the use of letters, emails and chat rooms)...

2) Ho Voglia di Te by F. Moccia (It Romance) this book is in Italian
Oh heavens, this was such a waste of precious bookstore space, a waste of reading time and money! I expected this to be a decent sequel to "3 Metri Sopra il Cielo" when really it turned out to be some empty sugary joke of a love story... please don't torture yourself by reading this.

3) Dream of me by J. Litton (Hot romance) Dream of Me/Believe in Me
Wow! This book seriously surprised me, I guess I was in need of a steamy romance! Talks about princess who gets kidnapped by a rough, muscular Viking... you can only guess. In its category this is definitely a must-read!

Must-read (no order)

1) Pride & Prejudice (by J. Austen)

2) The Secret Life of Bees (by S. M. Kidd)

3) Can u Keep a Secret? (by S. Kinsella)

4) The Alchemist (by P. Coelho)

5) The Da Vinci Code (by D. Brown)

6) Memoirs of a Geisha (by A. Golden)

7) 1984 (by G. Orwell)

There are absolutely no excuses for not reading books besides admitting you don't like reading. You can find time like I do, plus you can listen to light readings with Audible.com, check it out it's great!
